Chemical Machining & Etching Services

Copper & Beryllium Copper Photochemical Etching

Tecomet Inc. manufactures copper and provides copper photochemical etching, specializing in high precision, very thin copper foils.  Components produced by Tecomet Inc. are machined with excellent feature and tolerance control, meeting the most demanding requirements.  We can successfully etch production copper and copper alloy components that are 0.0005 inches thick, or 10% of the thickness of a human hair. We can also etch copper as thick as 0.050 inches.

Copper Alloy Etching Capabilities

Copper is a soft, ductile material. Tecomet Inc. has the experience in working with copper and copper alloys, including beryllium bronze etching, to produce the most intricate parts reliably and to the tightest tolerances, accommodating the properties of the materials. Etching allows components to be machined without affecting the remaining material or surface finish, resulting in a clean cut with no heat-affected areas or burrs. Our state-of-the-art process can be used to create exacting half-etch and partial-etch areas that can be used to create features with varying thicknesses, mark the surface of a component with a logo or part number and facilitate bending during fabrication and assembly. Chemical machining and etching is also used to micro-etch the surface of completed beryllium copper etched components to improve bonding in later processes.

Tecomet Inc.’s state-of-the-art chemical etching process is cost-effective and repeatable, ensuring that all of the copper etched components produced will meet the exact requirements for the project.

Applications of Beryllium Copper Etching

Copper is a soft, ductile material with high electrical and thermal conductivity and good corrosion resistance.  It is easy to machine and form, making it a good material for use in small, intricate parts used in micro-electronics and larger parts used for electronics packaging, EMI/RFI shielding and motor and transformer laminations.  For electrical applications, tin plating can be used to make copper more receptive to soldering. Beryllium copper etched parts are used for electrical leads, leadframes, washers and contacts, and electronic connectors, circuits, connectors, shielding and laminations. As a result, copper is a popular alloy used to manufacture parts for the defense, aerospace and electronics industries for EMI/RFI shields, covers, connector pins, shims and washers. Our copper components are DFARS and ITAR compliant for use in defense applications and are manufactured to ISO 9001:2015 certification.
