Stainless Steel Photo Etching
Tecomet Inc. takes particular pride in our state of the art stainless steel chemical etching process. At Tecomet Inc., we specialize in chemically machining thin stainless steel foils with excellent feature and tolerance control. For example, we successfully acid etch stainless steel components that are 10% of the thickness of a human hair—or 0.0003 inches thick. We can also etch stainless steel as thick as 0.060 inches.
Stainless Steel Photo Chemical Machining Capabilities
The advantage of our stainless steel etching process is that it is a cost-effective and repeatable way to produce even the most intricate parts. There are many manufacturing benefits because our process can acid etch and chemically machine parts without affecting the remaining material and surface finish. Thin stainless steel sheets are cleaned with chemical solutions. Etched parts are cut clean with no heat-affected zones or burrs. Our process can also be used to create half-etch or partial etch areas that are impossible to produce with other manufacturing methods. This can be used to create features with varying thicknesses, or mark the surface of a component with a logo or part number. Chemical machining is even used to micro-etch the surface of completed components to improve bonding in later processes.

Applications for Stainless Steel Photo Etching
Stainless steel is a versatile metal that is used for a variety of products in every industry. Tecomet Inc. etches stainless steel springs for aerospace components, flat-wires for medical catheters, covers for telecommunication circuit boards and surgical cutting tools. Our control of edge features can even ensure a very sharp edge for use on medical cutting blades.
Customers in the medical field should know that Tecomet Inc. already has a specific setup for producing medical parts, including clean rooms and automated visual inspection equipment. And for those seeking service in the aerospace and defense industries, our stainless steel products are DFARS and ITAR compliant.
Stainless steel is used for its corrosion resistance, low cost and versatility of its different grades. For example, stainless steel 17-7PH Condition A material can be heat-treated to Condition CH900, which gives the material very high tensile and yield strength. The stainless 316 steel etching is used in many medical devices because it is biocompatible and less expensive than titanium.
Tecomet Inc. Technology has an ISO 9001:2015 certification. For more information about our stainless steel photo etching services, contact us today!
